Bowl drills are hand ground to a U shaped profile

and fit a 13mm chuck, piloting part way 

is recommended for these.

A common tip for getting the depth right is to put something

such as a cotton bud into the draft hole and it will jerk about when the bowl drill hits it.

With these you may wish to stop the hole short of the bowl and continue with a smaller diameter draft drill.
