North American Tulipwood (Liriodendron tulipifera)
Americans call it Yellow Poplar (it's not a Poplar)
Is a member of the magnolia family. White with a green tinge and often bands or streaks of green brown and purple particularly comming away from an insect hole. Tulipwood is soft, relatively cheep, easy to work and easy to finish. It is generally used commercially for carcassing and machinings needing painting. It carves and it the wood of choice for rocking horses. It can be pyrographed and cnc cut easilly and is available in thicker sections without becomming overly expensive.
